I have about 500 Sq. ft of crazy stones which have heaved and the concrete between cracked. I have removed all the concrete. How do I level these stones before I brush in Polymetric stone dust. How do I do this..

Thanks.. Owen M

  1. large project, you will have to let a little slope for water run off, but still, starting at on end and finishing at the other, one stone at a time,

  2. The best way is to remove all the stones from the area.

Remove the base layer - probably just dirt since it went a little crazy on you.

Get it as level as possible. Then apply about 1/2" to 1" crushed limestone or granite. Screed this to level, tamp down as best as possible. If the soil is muck, then place a landscape fabric down first.

Then one stone at a time start lying them out. You might have to have a little extra crushed limestone or granite to use to get the stones completely level.

Once this is done, apply the polymeric sand. Vibrate the area lightly to get the sand down into as many crevices as possible. After that keep adding the polymeric sand until you get the desired fill, use a broom to brush in the material as best as possible.

The lightly spray a mist of water over the area. The polymeric san reacts with water, and an adhesive adheres the grains of sand together.

Here is the warning- IT'S ALL BASE....if the base isn't strong or level to start with, you will do this again, and again.
