I just hit rite under 500 lbs. I have been really big since I was 18, I have a serious eating problem. I would really like to get on the rite track, and I know a lot of you would say Just eat less and excercise. Yes, I know, ive heard it all before, but for me its not that simple. I work third shift, so my eathing schedule is really messed up anyway. Could someone please offer me some good suggestions as to get me on the rite track, I would like to get healthier. I don't think that some of you know or can comprehend the obsticles that obeise people go thru on a daily basis. Most people just like to laugh at them, and make jokes about them like they are not even human or dont have any feelings. I think that is very very wrong. Please tell me what you think.

  5. Well, as you said eating less and exercising are the key, but initially, you need to make a big change to your mindset.

Eating healthily doesn't have to be boring, but changing habits and learning to enjoy say, fruit would be a good place to start.

Just a little exercise each day, several times a day will be a good start too but with the amount of weight you are looking to shift, it is going to take a fairly long time, therefore set yourself goals - daily, weekly and monthly targets that are achieveable.

Working shifts, unusual hours or nights shouldn't be a reason to eat badly, many people also have no schedule, but it's what you eat and how much that is the key/or problem. If you are not doing a very physical or job then look at the calories and research the amount of protein and carbs that are recommended.

Why not start a blog to show your progress and give yourself an incentive, maybe you'll inspire someone else!

    Good Luck

  6. You are really in no condition to do strenuous exercise at this point. If you can't afford surgery you must change your eating habits.

Drinking lots and lots of water is a great way to control your appetite. Eating a lot of rice will do you good too; as it is filling and obviously healthy.

There are some diet pills on the market that control your appetite and are safe when taken as directed.

Walking uphill on a treadmill is a great fat burning exercise but you need to start slow and on flat ground. Try to walk on the treadmill 30 minutes a day. Or work your way up to that point.

You can only change your life if you truly want to. It is definitely going to require a lot of will power and dedication.

    Best of luck!

  7. Ok, I am not as big as you but I am obese 200 lbs 5'4.  There is this awesome site that I joined and it is free.  When you sign up you enter your weight and height, male/female, exercise level and what weight you would like to get down to.  Then they do all the work for you.  The make meal plans, exercise schedule, they have support groups and message boards and the exercise videos are even free.  You don't have to follow their plans, you can enter your own food and it counts the calories for you.  It's really awesome and it is really keeping me motivated!  You should try it...

  8. Go see a professional, a dietitian or something. That sort of weight loss is not something anyone on-line can help you with.

I will add though that I agree that people shouldn't laugh about people who are obese, it's just as bad as laughing at a person because of their disability, but some people can't see that as "obese people bring it on themselves". I don't fully believe that anyway and I'm sorry to hear people make your life hard because of your weight - I know what it's like to be at the end of jokes like that (not about weight but other things about me that I had trouble with) and I know it's not a nice place to be.

Please talk to a professional, they'll be able to tell you way better than I or anyone here can. Good luck!

  9. It is NOT in your best interest to take diet or exercise advice over the internet.

You are morbidly obese (I mean no offense). Because of that comes health concerns.

It's in your best interest to see your doctor to discuss getting you into an out patient program for weight loss through a hospital as well as a referral to a Nutritionist. You will need monitoring and advice designed specifically for you. As well, a Physiotherapist will be able to assist you in beginning an exercise regime.

And you are right, a lot of people do nos understand the obstacles overweight people have. I too wish some people would learn a thing or two.

    Good luck!

  10. What I think? I think that something that can help you is appetite dampeners. A good site that is super cheap and delivers it within a week and a half is bodybuilding.com

I would also like to suggest that you split your meals in half and spread them out over time so that it increases your metabolism and helps fight cravings

I would also suggest eating healthier foods and excercising though you probally don't want to hear it, but it really suppluments any fat loss pills that you could suggest rather then taking the pills alone.   A fat blocking pill such as Ally can also help you lose weight as well.

  11. I am obese as well. I weigh 203 pounds and am 5 ft tall. Here is what I did. I had lost 20 pounds before when I had no food allergies. Here is what I did. I ate cereal for breakfast, an apple for a snack, yogurt and fruit for lunch, and a sensible dinner.

Being that you work 3rd shift you may want to make yourself a healthy turkey/1 slice of cheese sandwich on whole grain bread, take an apple and some vegetable sticks to munch on, you will feel quite full fast. I have 30 pages worth of food allergies so I can eat hardly anything that is considered "healthy" now. Which is why I am struggling. If you find that 3 meals a day doesn't do it for you, try eating 6 smaller meals a day every few hours or so. Yes...I am the butt of laughter, and jokes also, so I know exactly what you mean. It's a pretty sad world we live in when we have to be subjected by ridicule. Try going for a nice walk in the morning. That's what I do. It feels good because it's nice and cool out. LOL...By the way..I'm addicted to Harry Potter, too! :) I just noticed your other questions. :)

  12. LOSING SEVERAL HUNDRED POUNDS ISN'T SOMETHING YOU SHOULD ATTEMPT TO DO WITHOUT CONSULTING  A DOCTOR OR A NUTRITIONIST.

    SORRY FOR THE CAPS..

  13. You may not want to hear it, but exercise and eating healthier are the only options available to you. This dosn't have to be as hard as it seems, however.

I can only guess how many calories you are consuming per day... would it be somewhere near 4000? Anyway, the way to burn fat is to create an energy (calorie) deficieny within your body, meaning that you burn more calories than you consume. There are a few simlpe things you can do which will help you lose calories, and therefore, weight.

Fist of all, if you havn't already, substitute your milk for low fat milk. This may not seem like a big change, but it will add up over time.

Try cut out sugary beverages and alcochol, instead replacing them with water. This may seem like a big step, but it doesn't have to be. It is recomended that you should drink 2 litres of water per day, but you can build up to this gradually. Start off carrying a bottle of water with you wherever you go. You can add some natural lemon juice which will make it taste slightly better. When you want a drink, use your bottle. The water bottle is also a great way to avoid snacking. When you are craving a certain, unhealthy food, take a few sips of water which may help you overcome these cravings. Over time, you will get used to water and begin drinking more of it without thinking.

A great way to boost your metabolism is to drink green tea. It tastes horrible, but 2 glasses with beakfast and one with lunch will work wonders for you in the long run.

This may be the hardest step, but it is the most important if you are looking to loose weight. Cut the c**p out of your diet - at least to the best of your ability. Obviously you can still eat your favourite foods, but what I am trying to say is to remove some of these items and replace them with healthier foods. Start off small (e.g. remove cookies from your house, substituting them with apples), and work your way up until you are not totally dependant on junk food.

The second-hardest step will be to incorporate exercise and physical activity into your lifestyle. Again, this may seem hard but you can make it easier. Instead of joining a gym, going flat out with your exercise, you can again start small and work your way up. This gives your body time to adapt and you time to adjust to your new lifestlye mentally.

Start off by doing simple things at home which take a greater amount of effort. Instead of asking family members to bring you something, get it yourself. Instead of using a dishwasher, wash the dishes yourself. Gradually build up to the point where you feel like you are able to exercise, even for a few minutes.

A great way to start would be by walking. A man called Phill Novak weighed lost 192 pounds in the space of two years - coming down from 387 pounds. Here is a quote from an article on CNN which talks about Phill. "I walked off my first 100 pounds," he says. "Walked it off, an hour a day. I lost 100 pounds in seven months." Your initial exercise plan doesnt have to be huge. As long as you are moving and using more energy than you have in the past, you are doing youself a favour.

This is pretty much all I can say but it doesn't matter how much you read of how much advice you get. The only way to lose weight and take back your life is to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Many people have done this in the past, and YOU CAN TOO!!! It's all about willpower. If you want it enough, you can have it. Keep in mind, however, that if you are serious about losing weight, you require a total lifestyle modification. This can be brought on gradually as I have tried to explain, but you MUST undrstand that you are not on a 'diet' or a 'program' until you reach your ideal weight. Many people have lost weight, but not all have kept it off. This is because they go back to their old, sedentary lifestyle of unhealthy food and lifestyle choices.

I hope this has helped you, and, from the bottom of my heart, good luck! Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything.

Here is the article on Phill if you want to take a look:
