  1. try the protein diet.

  2. Eat plenty of green vegetables. They are low in calories and high in nutrition.

  3. Drinking ice water while running or walking can speed up your metabolism. Some people will get stomaches, so you might be wary of that.

  4. either you're born with a fast metabolism, like me, not to brag, or you work for it.  if you exercise alot, then it will boost your metabolism and make it faster.  Also, just eat healthy foods, and enjoy junk food in moderation. I even read you can eat hamburgers and hotdogs three times a week, but ice cream once a week.  just try to follow the food pyramid.  GOOD LUCK!!!!!

  5. Maybe 900 calories a day is too low for a 17 year old.

Why don’t you start by reducing to 1200?  I will be healthier for you.

I do not believe any food will speed up metabolism, just a sensible diet.

I lost about 70 pounds in six month at your age with the following plan:

    Breakfast”

    1 fruit

    2 carbohydrates (breads or cereal)

    1 fat

    1 milk

    Lunch:

    1 meat

    2 carbohydrates

    1 vegetable

    1 fruit

    1 fat

    Afternoon

    1 fruit

    Dinner

    2 meat

    2 carbohydrate

    1 vegetable

    1 fruit

    1 fat

    Evening snack

    1 milk

    1 carbohydrate

Choose your food on calorie content to meet the 1200. I would not do less than 1000

List of carbohydrates:  bagel, buns, pita, English muffin, whole wheat, bran, oatmeal, macaroni, noodles, corn flakes, rice, shredded wheat, wheat germ, graham crackers, melba toast, saltine crackers., pretzels, starchy vegetables such as corn, potatoes, squash, sweet peas.  Choose wisely. Etc

List of fats:  almonds, avocado, margarine, mayonnaise, oil.

List of proteins:   lean cuts of meat, cheese, parmesan, eggs, fish, chicken, hot dog, peanut butter, etc.

This way you will not get bore.  You can use more lean stuff and buckle up on vegetables.

I did 30 minutes of aerobics exercise every day accept Sundays.

The deal with the diet is consistency.  If you eat too low calories and only vegetables you will get bore and always be hungry.

Have some patience. Take your time and one day at a time and you will succeed.

    Good luck!

  6. Ive steadily became a vegetarian over the last couple of years, which in its self affected my weight. Doing away with unnecessary sugars [soda, candy, sugary fruit juices.gum], lightening up on condiments [dressings] & bread, has proven to be helpful for me. I like to chew on ice sometimes, as I get the sensation that Im eating. Ive recently began to mix the K2O brand of flavored powder into my water [it has protein in it!].

Grapefruits are excellent to add to a diet.

I wish you the best :)

  7. I would double that calorie intake to 1800. The fastest way to Slow down your metabolism is to create a huge calorie deficit. It will just shut down. Also you'll be loosing more muscle than fat so that would be counter productive.  I would choose lean protein sources like Chicken Breast, Turkey and Fish and then couple that with lots of veggies.  Try breaking the 1800 calories into 5-6 mini meals. The more meals you break that 1800 into the faster your metabolism will go.  For your cardio I would walk say 3 mins and then jog 2 and keep repeating until your time is up.  All the reading I have done says interval training is another way to boost your metabolism quicker than say getting on a treadmill and walking constant for an hour. Hope that helps!

  8. Well, it is a good thing that you are worrying about your health.  Since you are 17, I am assuming you are a high school student...how far is your school from your home? If its about three miles or less, I would suggest that you start walking/running home from school.  It would help you lose weight and you would get your exercise in.

Once you drop a few pounds, your metabolism will start to increase.  I would suggest that you eat a tomato every morning with out any seasoning on it....they say it helps speed your metabolism as long as you are exercising with it.

Also, it maybe easy to say you only eat a certain amount of calories, but you may be eating a lot more or a lot less..Keep a little notebook where you can actually write down everything that you eat.

Get enough sleep if you dont sleep enough your body will store a lot of fat, on the flip side if you are sleeping tooo much your body will also store a lot of fat. eTry not to eat after seven maybe brush your teeth right after dinner it will keep you from snacking.  When someone asks you to do something do it right away even when you dont want to...Its an easy way to lose some calories and please your parents! =)

are you social do you have a good group of friends or a good friend? see if you can find someone that wants to walk with you.  Maybe if there are dogs in your suburb that you can walk and make some money from you would get your exercise and make some money.

Does your school have a go green club? If not make one...see how many students/teachers are willing to try walking/running to and from work. Make it a project to go clean certain areas in your town that need to be cleaned...every  move you make is a calorie waiting to be burned.

make it your mantra  I move I lose

    Good luck. Be positive!

  9. This is what I do.

I get up in the morning and have a bowl of cereal.

Then about 10 minutes later I go on the tredmill for about 30 minutes

Then I go to work/school (depending on the day)

Come home and have more cereal.

Then go on the tredmill for another 30 minutes or so.

Depending on the day I will do between 3-6 miles.

Drink lots of water. Don't eat junk, no cookies, no candy no fastfood

  10. All the above are good answers.  I would like to add one more.  Add in a resistance training program.  It is a scientific fact that the more muscle you have you are able to burn more calories. The more muscle mass equals more metabolic burning due to more muscles being used during your bout of exercise to burn off extra calories.  Exercise (aerobic and resistance) along with a proper nutritious diet equals life long success.  We are all masters of our own destinies!  Smalls step and provide some successes along the way will set you up for life.  Good luck!!!
