I have got a large kite, and am planning on making a teradactil (sorry about spelling) - any ideas to make my dinosaur realistic.

It will be hanging from the ceiling, so it needs to be quite light....

all ideas welcomed.

  1. you could put fairy lights inside it or you could use torches where his eyes are

but use selofane or thin tissue paper to see through it

  2. mmm paper mache

Newspaper stuck with wall paper paste dry out n add other layer n could be quite effective when painted over...

    OR collage dino

  3. when I was doing art at school we made a pterodactyl out of pa-pier masche i.e. news paper riped up into very small strips and left to soak in a bucket of wallpaper paste.

get some stiff florists wire and make a skeleton of the shape you want then cover with your pap-pier masche and leave to dry get some dark green gloss paint to paint it and some lighter green to paint on scales looks the biz

  4. Yeah, you could use like loo rolls and tissue boxes and fashion them into the shape, pape mache it all to add detail like the head and other rises and falls of the body with a paper cone beak.

    Good Luck

  5. I rem in grade school my teacher made a paper mache dino. it was great, and when it was over we , the kids, torn it up and found Candy in it.

  6. Ask the children! They always have the best ideas and they can participate. They don't want to look at a dinosaur you've made, they want to make their own. Give them a chance.

  7. Balloons, covered in newspaper strips and coated with 1/2 glue and 1/2 water mixture (homemade paper mache pinata).

  8. you can make a paper mache dinosaur.  At Michaels craftstore they have this plaster stuff it is a white roll (kind of looks like a roll of toliet paper, but not as big), and all you need to do is wet it and it sticks to anything.  To make the mold of the dinosaur tin foil works really good, or newspaper and then apply the plaster, and paint! I love that stuff, i make flowers and vases out of it and it is really light!

    good luck,

  9. Paper mache? Amateurs!

For the spine, neck and tail use.... what do you call those long, foam tubes you see at the swimming pool?

That large kite for its wings.

For the head use a small Nerf Football and the fin on top of the head use a plastic or rubber door stop.

For its beak construction paper rolled up into a cone and held together with tape so that it won't unravel.

Sporks for those little arms on the wings and for its feet.

Legs made from paper towel tubes.

Make the belly from a large party balloon and beef up the neck a little with those long balloons.

Finally, piece them all together with duct tape which is also the perfect texture for the skin.

That's how you make a pteradactyl!

  10. maybe you could get some kind of wire and make the 3d dinosaur out of that and then cover it in papier mache or something? duno if it would work or not?

  11. A 6 or 7 year old dinosaur wouldn't be too big I'm afraid.

  12. My oldest made a dinosaur when she was in the second grade. We used small shoe boxes, paper towel tubes and small cereal containers. We then covered it with a light glue mixture and covered it with newspaper and colored construction paper. You can use the smaller oatmeal conatiners as well.

I hope that this helps with some ideas as to how to go about doing this.

  13. crayola modeling clay!

    its real light

it might not be the exact same thing but its something like that

its more fomy that it is clay like!

  14. Paper mache would be perfect.

I did this a couple times when I was in grade school - and made a dolphin and sphinx.  They turned out great!

You could even paper mache over the kite, attach it to the body, paint over the whole thing, at it would look awesome!
