Question:

I need to make a correction on my mobile home's title, can a notary public do it?

My dad owns the mobile home I live in and he was going to put it in my name because I was going to sell it. So he signed it over to me but never applied for a new title. He decided to just keep it in his name and give me the money for the sale. Well, we sold it and are supposed to sign it over today but I have my name signed in all the places the buyer needs to sign. I was wondering if the notary public can white out or correct it in some way so the buyer can put their name where mine is? I do not want to have to apply for a duplicate title and wait for that to come in (I'm moving far away in less than a week) Is there anything I can do? I live in Louisiana.

  1. Hit the DMV with your dad , they should be able to square it away for you .

  2. White out - cross outs and other changes void the title.

You will have to go to dmv and apply for a duplicate title. Then you can sign the home over to the new buyer.

Since the title is signed over to you on the back -- you may have to apply for a title in your name - pay the taxes on the home and then sign the new title over to the purchaser.

In my state - you can pay 35 and they will print the new title right there at the dmv.  Since you are moving -- I suggest you go down to the dmv this morning.
