  1. Here's a website for space party ideas like games, recipes and more http://www.pinatas.com/Space_Party_Ideas...

  2. Great appetizer ideas (kid friendly, themed, etc.) at www.kraftfoods.com

    Check 'em out!!

  3. You can go to the grocery store and get those ice cream treats that are ice cream dots they are flavored but the flavors are all different colors, they are just in dots.  Or you can get the popsicles that are red, white, and blue and shaped like rockets, that's spaced themed and they're ice and not ice cream so there's no issues of anyone being lactose intolerant, etc.

I would also do some research online about the astronauts have brought into space with them and have that there and you can tell the kids about it.  I'm sure once they hear that the real astronauts brought those actual snacks and treats into space they're going to think it's so cool!

  4. Perhaps the kids could do some craft projects prior to the party to get them excited and "in the mood."

For costumes, try letting them make their own alien headgear which would consist of plastic headbands covered in foil, pipe cleaner antenna with a ping pong ball on top.  The kids could paint the balls into eyeballs if they wished.

For room decorations, try making the ceiling into a galaxy using white cardboard for stars decorated with glitter or stickers, different sized styrfoam balls for planets decorated in different colors and designs and attached to the ceiling with fishing line and tape.  I've also seen helium balloons shaped like stars.

For games, try making flying saucer frisbees.  Use regular plastic plates and bowls.  Don't use paper or chinet as they won't fly.  Tape or glue two dinner size plates together (one within the other.)  Turn the plates upside down and glue or tape the cereal bowl upside down on the bottom of the plates.  Decorate anyway you wish.  Then have frisbee flying contests to see who can throw further.  These really do fly like a frisbee so you may want to do this outside.  The winner gets a small space related prize (check the dollar store or a party store.)

A more expensive alternative would be a pinata filled with things space related.  I've seen space ship pinatas and half moons at the party store.  Fillings could be things like pencils, balloons, miniature Mars and Milky Way bars, sparkly confetti, etc.  They run in the $15 range.

For food, try different types of space related cookie cutters.  A wide assortment of cookie cutters are available...from stars to space ships with a lot in between.  They are inexpensive and can be used over and over.  If you can't find a store near you with a large variety, try the internet, as there are oodles of choices.  You can make a wide variety of cookies with these.    They will also cut sandwiches, jello, pizza crusts, cheese, thin pieces of sliced apple, deli ham or turkey, etc etc. Decorations are only limited by your imagination.

Hope I've given you a few ideas.  Now let the blastoff countdown begin....10--9--8--7--
