I need to melt rubber and pour it into a mould - any ideas?

It's a project I am working on and what I keep coming back to is that I need a dense rubber disk - approx. 3" across. I would like to use a heavy rubber like tires, but I am open to suggestions.

I have build a lot of molds and I have found that Plaster Paris works best. We make light posts that are 2 feet wide and 12 feet tall out of concrete. It is cheat to use the stuff and can be found at any store.

You won't be able to get enough heat to melt rubber tires into liquid form.  You can buy a product at the home improvement centers that is already liquid, can be poured into a mold and will dry to a hard rubber.  The product is used for rubberizing tool handles (you dip the tool into the rubber in the container).  I am not sure how long it would take for a 3" wide disk to dry, check the instructions on the packaging.  And, you may want to inquire about what type of mold to use so that the rubber won't stick to the mold.  They do sell a releasing medium at the craft stores that you might need to coat the mold with so the rubber releases.
