balhams not that bad to live in my friend lives there up the road is the more expensive clapham & everyone always talking about clapham being so nice its not that amazing actually just nice bars etc....

as long as its near the eminities you need then why not try balham easy transport facilities and cheaper

Move up the road to Isleworth, Brentford or Hounslow.

In London you do get what you pay for I'm afraid.  Balham is fine and it has a tube station which is always great for South London which is poorly served by tubes.  It is very up and coming and definitely full of young professional people.  Clapham as someone else has suggested is very full of young rich trendy media types if you can afford it, however it is only a couple of tube stops away from Balham or a bus journey if you fancy the bars and restaurants without paying the premium to actually live there.

Balaham is c**p, why not try clapham common? however it is more expensive....if you're looking for a safe place to live in London that isn't expensive, brace yourself for a lifetime of dissapointment.

There used to be a sign as you left Waterloo Station. It read "Balham, the gateway to the west".
