Hi people! Um.. I know this is weird but I am writing a book. I need a name for the main character and I need to find a name for her. I want the name to be simple and pretty short and easy to pronounce . Like: Lyra, Harry, Will. But something like Lyra would be nice so something not that common but really short and it's a name for a girl.

  1. I've always found it's easier to match a name to a personality.  If a guy is dependable, Jim, Jeff, Will are good names.  If he's kind of good old boy type Bob, Ed, Tom work.  Sort of like that.  Girls names work the same, a name like Lyra is more for a new-age type so if that works OK.  Otherwise try traditional names for that type of character (Mary, Cindy, Laura) or if she's a business type she could have a non-gender name (Lindsey, Madison)  Good Luck

  2. Hello! In my opinion, Lyra, Harry, and Will sound too much like Phillip Pullman's The Golden Compass (and the rest of the trilogy).

I think you should use the name Lea (Lee-ya). It's not hard to pronounce, it's not very common, and its the shortest I could come up with. And for a girl, it's a beautiful name. It even sounds nice with Harry and Will- Lea, Harry, and Will...

    I hope I helped.

I always search here when i need to name a character.

  4. Lyra and Will are already characters in His Dark Materials series.

  5. Wren? I know its an older name but I love it to death, it's simple and unusual. I'm writing too, and my main female characters are Lola and Audrey. I'd suggest Rose, but it's becoming more common. Phoebe, Ami, Bree, Roxie, there are so many names out there. Try searching a baby naming site.

  6. i think the name Kira is really pretty. (pro: Kee-rah)
