Hello. I just bought my dress and will have to pick it up in september. The problem is the wedding is not until May. Im afraid it will be ruined by then. I tried to ask if they could hol it for me at the bridal store or if they can just postpone ordering even though I had already paid and they said they could not do either. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

  1. Go to your local dry cleaners & tell them you want to preserve your wedding dress. They will take the dress, put it in a box with some special paper in it. Not really sure what it is but I know for a fact they do it. I have worked for 3 different dry cleaners & they all do it the same.

Good luck, I hope this helps!!!

  2. You don't need to preserve it if you'll be wearing it inside of a year, and you'll have the dress 8 months before the wedding--which is PERFECT.  You'll need to be able to access the dress for fittings, you'll have at LEAST 2, but probably more, and they'll be spaced at least a month or 2 apart.  You will also have to have a final fitting about a month or 2 prior to the wedding, at the very least to double check the fit.  Your dress will be fine--what you should do is when you pick it up, ask the salesperson at the store how best to store it.  She will probably tell you to keep it in the bag that they SHOULD provide you, hang it in a closet where it won't get crushed or crumpled.  Do NOT, I repeat do NOT take the dress to have it preserved--you will waste your money--that's designed for LONG TERM storage--and I'm talking years.

  3. I agree you do not need to "preserve" your dress if you will be wearing it soon.  You would only do this after the wedding.

Instead all you need to do is store it in your closet in the bag it comes in.  I assume it will come in a storage bag that should be white or at least not see through.  It's important that the bag not be see through to keep light from discoloring it.  Other than that you don't have to do anything.

4-6 weeks before the wedding you want to make sure it still fits and or begin your final alteration appointments.  A few weeks before you can have it pressed and or cleaned if needed.

No need to postpone anything your dress will be fine!

  4. the bag will protect it until your wedding g*y, why pay almost 200 dollars to perserve it now when you will be doing it after the wedding
