  1. ...go on the Antiques Roadshow programme?

Or find a dealer or valuer. Just go to a directory website like yell.com and search for valuers.

  2. look in your local yellow pages for a place that would have that item...call them and see if they will look at it and tell you what its worth or if they know someone who can tell

  3. There are books available or you could seek info from one of your local antique appraisal houses.   Also, eBay may be a good place to do some research to see if anyone else is selling your collectors item.

  4. Depends what you have got.The best bet is to get it valued for insurence

  5. It really does depend on what type of item it is and how old it is.

For example, if it is a piece of Caithness glass, that is quite modern, then take it to a jewellers who sell glass and they'll give you a rough price.

If it's an antique then you should have an antique shop in your area, so go in and ask. If they don't know then ask if they could point you in the direction of someone who can. Have a look at ebay, or ask a dealer, but don't sell to them because their aim is to re-sell it themselves.

Many estate agents run auctions. The auctioneers do usually offer a free valuating service, so take advantage of this. Look in your local paper and see when the next auction is on.

Also, take a look through some search engines and see if there are any specialist websites for your item. You could always post on a message board and see if anybody can help.

  6. Ask a dealer and then add on to what they say by 15-20%

  7. look for the same item on eBay & see what they sell for

  8. go to ebay and search for that item in auctions that have finished to see what prices were paid for it

  9. Check for what they are selling for on eBay.

  10. just ask its simple
