I need to put a new oil pickup in my 253 v8 hq do a have to take the moter out or can i just lift it up

you can do it by lifting the motor,  take your air induction loose , fan shroud if you have one, then loosen the motor mounts from the frame, jack the engine up as far as you can then slide a couple of pieces for 4x4 wood under the motor mounts .. this should give you plenty of room to get the pan off...

What? First off what happened? Loss of oil pressure? The oil pick up and screen might be the least of your problems. Year make model how many miles? Who said just replace the oil pick up and that will eliminate the worn oil pump, worn rod main and cam bearings? I would remove the old motor and replace it with a new Crate motor.

i would say drop the crossmember and sump and it should be easy.
