I have a JVC Digital Video camera and I am needing to put vidoes on pc. I have the USB cable and a memory card. I am confused about the manuals directions on the memory card. It looks to me like its only for still images. Can anyone help me with this? Thank YOU!!

  1. It sounds like you've got a MiniDV camcorder.   You're right - the USB connection is just for downloading stills.  You'll need to capture the video via  firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.

Once everything's connected you can capture and edit the video with Windows Movie Maker (it should already be on your PC).

  2. If the digital video camera has a hard drive then you can plug the USB cable into the camera and computer.  Then turn on the camera and your PC may recognize it as another drive you can access from My Computer.   Some cameras require you enter the camera menu and tell it to connect to the PC.  Once connected you can cut and paste your video file from the camera to your computer.

If the video camera uses tape, it may connect via 1394 firewire in which case you will need a firewire cable.  Then you will need a program like Windows Movie Maker to view and record the video from the camcorder to the PC.
