I need to renew my U.S. passport, but it has my UK work permit in it. What should I do?

I'm an U.S. citizen and only in the UK for the summer. I am currently out of pages in my passport and was told that I could not add pages but that I had to renew it instead.

keep both passports together for visa purposes .

Probably keep the old one along with the new one, but talk to the British who issue the work permit as well as the U.S.Embassy/Consulate before giving the old one up if you must.

Just renew it, the US Embassy will use a paper punch and punch two holes in your old passport and hand it back to you and you keep it along with your new passport to show your work permit.
