  1. It's to do with insurance. Insurance companies are reluctant to insure inexperienced drivers on hire cars. That's also why you usually need to be over 21. It seems unfair that a new or young driver can't hire a car but it's the way things are.

For what purpose do you need the car? Could a taxi do the job?

OK. I would suggest that you take the train to Cheshire and hire a limousine for the trip to the wedding. This can work out very economically and it's probably your best bet.

  2. Few car hire places will touch you, I'm afraid.

There are some dirt cheap "Rent a banger" companies.  I think you'll have to try them.

Type "Rent a banger" (including the quotes) into www.yahoo.co.uk and a few companies or references to companies come up if you scroll down.

    :)

  3. Don't think you got much chance mate its bad drivers that spoil it for us good drivers

  4. You won't be able to rent a car from anywhere, at all, until you have held your license for a whole year.

It's a known fact that you are more likely to have an accident in your first year of driving (after passing your test) and car hire companies really don't want the risk of you damaging or even worse, writing off a car.

Streetcar won't work either - look:-

To join Streetcar you must be aged between 21 and 75 and have held a valid driving licence for at least 12 months, or aged between 19 and 21 and have held a valid driving licence for at least 24 months. You must also have had no more than 1 accident in which an insurance claim was made in the last 3 years.

  5. If you are in the London area you can joint streetcar which is a car pooling type thing. You join up and then rent a car by the hour. They are all over the place, you just book it then pick it up from the street.

  6. Check out with http://www.selfdrivesolutionsltd.co.uk/

They offer car rentals all over UK
