I need to rent a cheap room for living in Toronto? any suggestions?

Hi everybody!

I´ll stay in Toronto as a tourist for 3 months and need to rent cheap.

Somebody told me something about the YMCA and basements for rent....are these a good options?

What do you suggest?

  1. Don't even think cheap is an option.

Well there is no housing at the current YMCA, ther are rooms for rent, but if your from out of town, they will rock you for alot of extra charges, I had tat laid on me when I came back a few years ago. There is a extended stay hostel on Dundas St over the bridge from Lansdowne Av, they rent for weeks and by the month and are reasonable, the only thing is there is alot of transiant comings and going if you no what I mean.

    There is a place on Jarvis St in the St Lawrence market area that is used for student housing that rents for longer periods, just make sure when you arrange for the room, to have a written reciept or agreement, or you could find your self out of luck.

    ymca is good most places, I don't know about Toronto, I'm in Halifax. basements are fine, just be careful you get one that is a legal apartment, sometimes they are just rooms in a house, without proper kitchenettes.
