Question:

I need to repair the bottom of my Sunfish Sailboat. Any Ideas?

I have a Sunfish that has a bunch of little spider cracks in it. its kinda old and needs a repair on the bottom. I'm wondering what is the best way to repair it? Should i re fiberglass it or epoxy it? Or something else

  1. With luck, the cracks are only in the Gel coat.  Check that the cracks do not go through to the glass fibre because, if they do, you will have a major repair job.  If they are only surface cracks, sand the entire bottom with wet sandpaper and then apply a layer of epoxy, sand it completely smooth, and cover with Gel coat.

    Wear a dust filter for all the sanding and do the epoxy and Gel coat in a well ventilated area, also with a respirator filter.  They look like gas masks and can be rented from the store were you get your glass fibre supplies.  Safety first!
