  1. Try disconnecting the battery. This will reset everything. Of course, if you have a problem, the light will come back on.

  2. Buy a code scanner at Auto Zone.

  3. If Your Car Has a Special Code For The Stereo,Write This Down To Reactivate The Radio. All You Need To Do To Reset Your Computer Is Disconnect The Battery Cable For About 5 Minites.

  4. Although disconnecting the battery works, there is a reason that light comes on.  Your car is telling you that there is a problem somewhere in the emissions system of the car.  It could be as simple as a loose gas cap or it could be a faulty O2 sensor, EGR valve, or worst case, the catalytic converter has gone bad.  If it is the gas cap, just tighten it and the light will turn itself off in a couple of days.  If it is not that, take it to a dealer, and have them pull the code to diagnose and repair the problem.  Problems in the emission system can lead to less performance and fuel mileage.
