We never did control Japan. Our objective after Japan surrendered in 1945 was to return civilian life to the way it was. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and our bases in the Philippines simultaneously in 1941. Many military leaders in Japan (not all) thought this would bloody the nose of America, and prevent us from denouncing their conquering of Asia and Australia. They thought America didn't have the stomach for war. They were wrong then. They'd be right now.

No we don't control Japan.If a war broke out with us and them we would lose.

Single H is half right. No the US do not control Japan but in the very unlikely event of a conflict between the two the US would win again. Japan has very little military or sea power now.
