  1. You can get a glass tank.

hamsters don'tt like to be caged in with bars.hammyt your hamster some chewing blocks.

get him stunnelsmster toys like tunnels to crall in.

  2. Fennec and I use the same idea. It's really good to use toilet paper roll tubes, because you're recycling and you don't have to buy anything. Also there's nothing poisonous in the tubes. Also to improve your "hammy's" life, try some of the following. Change its cage more often. (I've read that if you want to make them really happy, change their bedding every 4 days, which I find very unnecessary.) I change my hamsters bedding every 3-4 weeks. Also handle it more often. Another thing to do is to put it in a hamster ball at least once a week. Finally, what I really like to do, (and so does my hamster) is bring him outside. If you have a yard with tall grass, bring him outside! They LOVE to burrow in tall grass. They also make these cute little nests that they sleep in. This will surely make your hammy's life better, and your relationship will certainly grow stronger. Good Luck!

  3. There are loads of ways you can improve your hamster life - well done for wanting to!

    Here are some ideas:

    1) Get a better cage. Most store bought cages are way too small - go for the absolute biggest and best you possibly can. I prefer wire cages as hamsters enjoy climbing up the bars.

    2) Toys, toys and more toys!

Toys should give the animal the opportunity to express its natural behaviours.

The natural behaviours of hamsters include hiding, nest-building, foraging, running / exploring, chewing, etc. so find toys that help with this.

    Good toys can include...

    Solid running wheel

Commercial hamster toys of all sorts (my mice loved hay igloos!)

Cardboard boxes and tubes of various sizes

Wooden toys or chew blocks to gnaw on

Hideys - either store bought houses or empty boxes, small plant pots, etc.

Decent nest-building material such as paper wool (aka safe bedding). You can also give bigger pieces of newspaper of kitchen towel for the hamster to shred.

    3) Variety is the spice of life. Try to build up a collection of more toys than you will put in the cage at one time. Then every time you clean him out rearrange them, or swap them around so he gets something new. Just make sure he always has a wheel!

    4) Ditch the food bowl!

Hamsters are a foraging species and naturally spend lots of their time looking for food. Instead of putting his food in a bowl (boring!) try mixing it in with his bedding, hiding it in or on toys etc. so he has to forage for it. This will really help to keep him occupied and stop him getting bored. I never use bowls for my small rodents.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Just give him a chew stick to chew on. It helps make his teeth less sharp and gives him something to bite on. Every day take him out in his ball to run and then wants he starts sleeping in the ball put him away or if you have 2 people spread your legs out on the ground and touch the other person's feet with your feet. Then let your little hammy run until he starts ti climb over your legs!

  5. he's just bored out of his mind

give him something to chew, i recomend giving him toilet paper to shred up or maybe make a lego building for him to craw in and out of. and give him toliet tubes, those are the best to give to any rodent. give him lots and lots of toliet tubes :D that would keep him occupied so that he wont chew on the wires

i would say chewing on wires is a bad thing because it irritates its nose since whenever it chews on the wire its upper muzzle (i'm not really sure what else to call the nose XD) would be rubbing on the top wire while its chewing on the bottum wire. the nose would be irritated and he would start to lose hair in that area so discurage it!! give him lots and lots of toliet paper tubes!!!!

something to improve your "hammy's" life is thick bedding. about two to three inches would provide hours of fun tunneling through the bedding. hamsters are burrowing animals and its their instinct to dig so give him lots of bedding too. remeber to spot clean every day and to clean the cage entirely every weeks or more (the more the better)

  6. my mouse used to chew on the wire as well

they are trying to wear down their teeth because their teeth are constantly growing, and if they dont wear them down, then they grow through their brain!

maybe put some things for him to chew on in his cage, but make sure they are safe. the pet shop should have some good stuff

  7. A mineral block is a good idea but he might not like the taste and avoid it. If you are worried about his chewing, get him cardboard tubes that you get from toilet rolls or kitchen tissue rolls.

They absolutely love chewing them, and once they're done, they provide extra bedding!

  8. I would say to give him a mineral block to chew on. That way he can enjoy chewing and get the minerals that he doesn't get from his food. Just let him run around in you hand and on your arm and he should be happy and you will start creating a bond.

  9. It's probably anxiety because he has a new home. But it could be a phase. You should buy him something like toilet paper rolls or those wooden chew toys. Wooden chew toys are cheap at the pet store and toilet paper rolls which (I hope) you can easily find at your house.
