I need to transfer a dv tape to my mac but i dont have camcorder! suggestions?

a friend recorded the content for me, and borrowed a university camcorder. Now term is over we can no longer use the equipment, so have can i get the content off the tape?

  1. hate to say it,but you need a camcorder,and 'dazzle' available at pcworld.


  2. You'll have to borrow a MiniDV camcorder from a friend, I'm afraid. You'll need to connect it to your computer using a Firewire cable. This means you'll need a computer with a Firewire port too (Firewire 400). Good thing you have a Mac. Hook up your hardware and fire up iMovie, or any other editing software you use, and hit capture. Press record and roll the tape and there you go!

  3. I assume mac's use firewire then just borrow a camcorder and dump the lot onto your mac, or take the tapes to a shop and get them to do it, or buy a camcorder

  4. The only way to get the information off the tape is to play it back in a camcorder or appropriate VCR (much more expensive than a camcorder in all probability)
