Swamp Coolers are something unique that homes are now getting them installed.

The fan blows air through a core that is cooled by water and that keeps your home cool in the Summer and cuts down on electricity.

Where as conventional coolers are through 2 or 4 ton units with compressors running freon and that eats up your electricity.

Water coolers are just a fan using electricity and the rest is conservative and energy efficient.

There are available data for most of the countries. You can write a paper and study the energy intensity of major economies (USA, Germany, Japan) the last 10 years. Then you can see which countries improved the energy intensity and what this improvement means in terms of energy conservation.
