Wow.  No simple assignment here, eh?

If you're looking at a dramatic script, I'd build it around the story of an American GI, probably an army corps type, who returns from the war and gets involved in some aspect of design while falling in love and starting a family.  Then we've got the postwar design culture of progress through mechanization and that late 40s-early 50s era functionalism, plus the impact on consumption and consumerism as the baby boom generation is being born.
