I'm confused about what kind of paper I should use. I wanted to use plain printer paper, and a word document. My mom says that thank you letter must be hand written, and that I need to use one of the blank thank you cards I have to thank relatives for gifts. I really don't want to use one of them because they're childish. We don't have any stationary. Help?

  1. A BLANK note card will do fine, too.  And, write the note out on SCRATCH paper FIRST to make your corrections and be sure to include all the ideas you wanted to include.  THEN, "copy" the draft onto the BLANK CARD as carefully as possible... handwritten.  Usually when you are copying from a draft, you are less likely to have it look all scratched up, etc.

A hand-written note is always appropriate for a "personal" thing like a scholarship.

For a BUSINESS-type thank you, then business stationery is appropriate, and using the word-processor is fine.  If you wish to give it that "extra special" touch, go to an office supply store and purchase a package of "VELUM" or "LINEN" paper... you can ask for help with this (See links below for EXAMPLES of this SPECIAL paper!)... even HANDMADE paper (more expensive, but IMPRESSIVE!).

But, again, something like a scholarship is a more "personal" thing rather than a BUSINESS thing.

Do you have any PERSONAL stationery?????  I mean REAL, honest-a-goodness, PERSONAL stationery???  If you go to an office supply store, OR like a "Hallmark" store, where you would normally order things like WEDDING INVITATIONS... you can order YOUR OWN SPECIAL stationery.  It really doesn't cost an arm-and-a-leg.  THIS paper you can use in a printer, or be hand-written, with matching envelopes.

Years ago, I ordered personal stationery... it was simple but elegant.... my name, addresss at the top, in a striking ORANGE color, with a "stylized" orange "bar" across the page just below it.  That's IT!  But you would be AMAZED at how IMPRESSED people are with simple, but SPECIAL things like that.  It only cost about $50.00 for 50 sheets/25 "second sheets"/25 envelopes.  I don't know the costs these days, but I'm sure it's affordable enough.  And you save that stuff for the VERY SPECIAL correspondence, like this scholarship thank-you, so a box can go a LONG way!

There are a couple links (search, and a company) for ordering personal stationery.  You'll find it FUN and a wide variety to chose from!

    Have a polite day.
