why is studying abroad more important now than it was years ago.

please give me ideasssss

The pragmatic answer: Companies are not the Mom and Pop's of days gone by nor are they the American Brands they have mainly been.  I think global companies are more likely to hire some one they know has already been outside the US and was able to maintain a "work" habit.

The only thing I could think of is that there is a growing globalization in the world now than there was a while ago.  This would make studying abroad more important because it is important in the world of globalization to know about other cultures and experience other places.
