  1. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use castor oil. Every baby book and every doctor I have had have said not to use it.

I see you are walking a lot and having s*x, which can help. One thing that i read about and tried was nipple stimulation. Yeah, I know, it sounds weird, but stimulating the nipple releases oxytocin, which is the hormone that starts contractions. You have to work at it for a few hours, but it seemed to speed my delivery.

However, for the most part it's wait and see. Especially with a first baby. Chances are you will go pretty close to your due date no matter what you do.

  2. Walking worked for me with my second baby (named Kylie as well). I went for an extra long walk the night before I had her, then the next morning when I woke up I was in labor. I was 38 weeks then. There are several other methods I've heard of, s*x, nipple stimulation, eating raw pineapple or eggplant Parmesan. I don't think it would hurt for you to try any of those. Good luck.

  3. whatever else you try dont use castor oil its not safe foe you or the baby my friend used it it didnt work but gave her severe diharrea an when her bub was born 2wks later he had to be in special care for 5 days cos he had pooped in the amniotic fluid...

you could try clarysage oil in a burner it stimulates contractions but if you are not having any at all then in all seriousness your baby is not ready to come out yet!! i know how you feel as i had severe morning sickness through my whole pregnancy an i went to 40 wks 5days...its best for the baby to wait though..if your doc thought it was necessary for you to have bub now he would have scheduled you to be induced,,,

  4. Sorry but as a midwife I cannot sanction unsupervised do-it-yourself induction.

The process of going into labour is a complex series of events, not one single thing, and I know you won't want to hear this but your body and your baby will work together and the baby will come when it is ready.

Trying to accelerate the process without medical supervision can be unsafe.

But I can  tell you, for the sake of your baby and for your own safety, if anyone suggests castor oil or laxatives, or herbal remedies, DO NOT do this.

If your doctor truly thinks you need inducing, he or she will induce you properly.

Add: I'm not lecturing, but giving you the benefit of 20 years experience in caring for pregnant women and newborns, and I have seen, first hand, the disasterous and sometimes heartbreaking results of women trying to induce their own labours because they are, well, over it.     Think about it:  the "normal" methods don't seem to be working.  This should send you a very strong message that your body and your baby simply aren't ready just yet.

If there is a genuine, sound reason why you need to be induced, then your doctor or midwife will assist you and supervise the process, as induced labours as opposed to natural labours do carry a higher risk.

  5. try going swimming

  6. when my doctor wanted to speed up my baby (I had preclampsia with extremely high bp), she had me drink 3 tbsp of castor oil in the am before I ate breakfast. It worked, I had my baby 3 days later!
