My one arguement is that most veterans end up homeless. Does anyone have any other ideas? Please write back. I'm interested in your opinion.

  1. There is no draft.  So , it is not killing anyone.

There is a saying from the ancient Greeks,{  and I will spell it like it sounds }  See Vees Pachem, Parabellem.  which means    To have peace, prepare for war.  We have an army to show the evil ones in this world that we are willing to defend ourselves, and those who cannot defend themselves.

We do not have a draft, because there are enough people with the good morals, to join and stand up for the weak.

  2. How about the fact that people who are forced to fight dont put their effort into it.  They only do it to not go to jail or to survive.  That is exactly what I would be doing anyways if the draft came back today.  Some people just dont believe that you have to fight and kill other people to get what you want.  And forcing the public to comply should be unconstitutional.  I mean this country is "for the people, by the people".  So the government is actually working for us (or it actually should be), not us working for it.

  3. Most veterans end up homeless?!!

Do some research, less than 1% of veterans who end up homeless.

How about the fact that only 1 in 5 high school grads can qualify for service based on thier aptitude, health and criminal history.

  4. people that are now serving are stretched to the max

we hear in the news that the army has not met its goals

    it is a sad situation

  5. Well, if you try to use the 'most veterans wind up homeless' argument you can expect to be laughed at.

A a recently retired senior non-commissioned officer my biggest concern about a draft is the decline in the quality of the troops.  (If you start a draft then we would have to accept those people who are currently considered 'not good enough' for the military.)

  6. The draft is essentially "involuntary servitude", an example of slavery.

There might be an extraordinary occasion when it could and should be put in to place, as in, when we get attacked, but for now, we don't need it.

I take exception to the rest of your question stating that most veterans are homeless.  This is NOT true.  Most veterans are very functional citizens, who pay taxes, and own their own homes.  There are some veterans, who are mostly mentally ill,who are homeless. This seems to be a function of the mental illness, not the fact that some of them are veterans.

We as a country need to take care of the mentally ill.  When we closed all the mental institutions in the 70's we put many people who were incapable of taking care of themselves on the street.  This is the real travesty, whether they are veterans or not.

  7. Any democracy that has to force its citizens to protect it has already failed.

  8. Upper class people have a much easier ways of avoiding military service.

  9. its killing alot of young Americans, and we spend so much money over there we as a country is falling into debt. That is why candian and Euro money is now worth way more than the US dollar.

  10. Its anti-freedom/liberty , to force someone into military service is very anti freedom

  11. Good grief, some of these answers are so idiotic it's pathetic. A country has has to force it's citizens to protect it has lost already (paladin's answer). Do you mean like we lost in WWI and WWII? Do you people actually think you owe this country nothing for the freedoms we all enjoy here? I'm glad your ancestors didn't feel that way or we'd all be speaking German today. 'Heil Hitler?' What a bunch of f*****g losers.

Oh, sorry. To answer your question. MOST do not end up homeless. A few do. MOST are functioning, productive members of society. So look for another reason. We have a volunteer military now and don't need the draft unless there (God forbid) should be another big war. And judging from these answers, we can count on losing that one.
