  1. You can have a pretty cliche idea (save the princess) be very interesting if the way it is done is interesting.

Example: The princess has been kidnapped.  The adventurers investigate, after being asked to pledge that they shall not waiver from their task until it is completed.  They find she's been kidnapped by bandits.  The bandits turn out to be <insert unexpected bandit here>.  They have kidnapped her because they have discovered she is really a half-fiend who is seeking to kill the king and her step mother and assume rulership of the kingdom.

    Additional characters:

    Her true mother (a succubus)

Her half brother, the prince (an LE Knight who will become king if she fails)

The rebel leader who wants to toss out the whole rotten royal family (time for you to introduce your theme of choice..return to nature or simpler times, the true lost king, salvation through technology/magic, the comfort of the evil we know vs the uncertainty of change, etc.)

Is that all for 2-4 level?  Maybe not, it might end up going longer.  Wheels within wheels....

  2. You need to have them go a quest for their true name which will unlock the door to a demi plane where their parents came from and that they can explore to get some legendary family weapon.
