Hey.. okay so i'm 16 and i've played volleyball since grade 7 (that's when it starts in our school). i don't play club because our town doesn't have a team, but i would love to try out this year for a town that's close to ours.. the problem is, i don't think i'm good enough..

i just rallyed with my brother, and i couldn't do anything.. especially hit! we played pepper, and it was awful!! so if anyone has any practice advice, that would be greatly appreciated.

also, any conditioning and training help would be amazing..

and one last thing.. i've found out that i jump serve better than i can regualar serve (my regular serve is awful and inconsistent). does anyone know why this might be, and what to do about it? should i just practice my jump serve, or should i try and get my regular serve??

thanks so much, please don't be afraid to give TONS and tons of info.. i'll read it all!!

  1. Well first of all u will need more confidence, you tend to do better if you have some faith in yourself.  Volleyball is an extemely challenging sport that is based on proper technique and foundation (example, correct form in passing, setting, serving, etc)  it all starts with technique - im telling you the truth.  To be able to see why your serve is inconsistant, I would have to see what you are doing to know how to help, but jump serves are great...some ppl can never get that down!  I have played vball most of my life (im 23yrs old), i have coached it, i have worked in an athletic center that administered vball camps, club team, clinics, preseasontraining, private lessons, etc).  The most effective methods to learn and prefect your vball skills are club ball and private lessons.  If money is an issue, most private lesson coaches will charge less per student if you bring in a couple of friends with you to do the lessons.  And girl u have to practice, vball doesnt just come to u overnight, its so much work.  As far as workouts, there are so many but I would mainly focus on, plyometrics(jumprope, bleacher jumps, ets, etc), any kind of shuffling(while bending knees-low), and practice your volleyball moves (spiking steps, follow through with the swing, block, and transition back to your defense position).  I know this is general, with bad punctuation, and maybe a few spelling errors here and there, but I hope you understand my point and it helps you!  Good luck

  2. So, I hope that I can help. i have played on a club team so I think I can help with conditioning. First of all you need to have really strong abs for jumping. I would do like 25 crunches and 25 leg-ups a day for good abs. Also if you jump rope and run up the stairs a lot, that will help sooo much with your jumping. As for your jump serve, i would most defineatly get really good at that because it is so much more powerful than a regular serve, and also it is way cooler. Also when you are spiking the ball, i would make sure that you have the approach right, and also the right timing. Make sure that when you are hitting it, that your left arm is always in the air, that way it will help you get higher when you jump. But the best thing that you can do is practice with someone that knows a lot about volleyball like a coach or something. And practice, practice, practice!!! If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me! =]

  3. It is strange that you can jump serve, but not hit or regular serve.  You can do the hardest of the 3 skills.  Maybe your concentration is there for the hardest of the skills.

You do need to work on both serves.  You may get to match point and the coach might not want you to jump serve.

Keep peppering with your brother.  The key to peppering is to make sure your hand goes toward your brother.  It is like you are trying to hit him with your hand.  Usually if you hand goes somewhere, the ball will go to the same place.

Confidence might be a problem as well.  Be confident in yourself.  You have the hardest skill in the jump serve.  If you can master that, you can master any of the other skills.

  4. I don't know any good practice ideas, but I would say practice your normal serve but also practice jump serve! Also i would just tryout for the team and see if you get on! Good luck!!!

  5. Well club will make you like 5398870 times better soo i would at least try out.

and i would practice both jump and reg serve.

  6. You should try out.

    I didn't think I was good either.

But I practiced, and when I went to tryout, I did well.

All you have to do is practice hitting the ball.

It's not so hard once you start to actually play with tons of people.

    I say, go for it.

If you don't, you will definelty regret it!

    Hope I helped(:

  7. First don't say you ain't good enough believe!!!! practice alot. good luck. you can do it!!!!

    BUMP! SET! SPIKE!
