Okay when someone is setting a ball for you why do you have to yell 2,4,or 9 and what do those numbers mean also. What is a downball? and why does the setter get the second ball and when the setter says help what do we the other players do?

  1. OK your a bit of a mess....but that's why we are here....to help.....the numbers your hear on a set are the type of set a hitter wants a 4 is high and outside...a 2 is a high ball in the middle....a 9 is ????? never heard of it,

Downball or free ball  is a ball that is not going to be a hard hit or spike so the blockers can pull off the net, They then get ready to pass or to hit(spike)

The aim in VB is to use all three hits to gain a point. The setter is usually the best ball handler on the court ....they are the generals they run the offense and set everything up for the hitters. When they yell help it's cause they cant reach the 2nd ball and are asking for HELP.

If you want to get better go to clinics...play in school...go to camps and you should do just fine.

    Good Luck

  2. Well other people seem to have answered most of your question, but when they say "4" they want a set to the outside (left) side, 2 is a set to the middle, and a 9 is a set to the rightside (weekside)

  3. They yell the numbers because each position has a different number. So when the player at the position yells the number the setter knows to set to them. It's the same as outside, middle, and back just in numbers. Downball is a hit where you don't do an approach and jump to hit the ball. When the ball comes and you can't do an approach fast enough or don't want to do one then you just snap your wrist down when the ball comes and hit it over the net. The setter gets the second ball because the ultimate volleyball combination is Bump Set Hit. Because of that saying the setters needs to set the ball to the hitter to hit hence they get the second ball. When the setter says help it means  they can't get to the second ball so if they yell then someone else comes and either sets the ball or hit it over the net.

  4. well i am   a volleyball player and

    1.we yell "mine" not 2 4 or 9

    2. A down ball is a ball hit with an overhand swing while the player is still on the ground. This is different from an attack in that the player does not jump.

3the setter gets the second ball because it puts the ball in place for the spike

4.When the setter says help the other team members are suppose to run to the ball to hit it back tward the net.make sure you yell the # or mine when you go to help the setter

but remember you only have 3 hits!

  5. HEY!! your not too far behind! When I was in 4th grade and just starting out i didn't know what that meant either. :-) But anyway...your supposed to call out your position when setter is setting the ball...e.g. 2, 1, 5 (aka hut, outside), Fly (behind setter), C (servers position). those are just a few of the positions too. It's best if you call those out so that setter can find where to set the ball to. I'm a setter...and I demand people call where they are, otherwise I miss!lol Also, some excersizes to do at home are to do finger push-ups against the wall, NOT ON THE FLOOR! That will damage your hand and fingers, and we don't want that. Then to just take the ball and hit it down at the garage or something like that...Then if you just pass up and down to yourself that helps with control... Measure out the vball court...and measure that on your sidewalk, and then serve to the garge, or a solid wall on your house. (get permission first) :-) also if you have a basketball hoop outside set from different spots in your driveway and try to get it near or in the hoop...or just mark a spot on your driveway with chalk. Then I know this is wierd, but it helps so so so so so much, is to have someone toss socks to your arms and pass it back...it won't go high obviously cause you NEVER want to swing your arms, only use your legs! :-) that helps with control and position...Then girl vball players weakest leg muscle is on the inside of your knees... so if you put a basketball, volleyball, or something relative in size between your knees, and use your arms and legs to jump far in distance and in heighth...I reccomend starting with 10 a night... and once thats easy go to 20 and then 30 and so on. Also, in vball you are never supposed to put your hands on your knees when in "ready position" because thats putting a lot of  pressure on your knees, you need your legs to get comfortable in a "squat" position so that it is comfortable holding up your entire body. Doing squats dayly will help, and do about 15 to start and hold each one for 10-15 seconds each, also WALL SITS are GREAT!! put your butt against a wall,  and have your tail bone touchi8ng the wall, your legs should be at a 90 degree angle, and even...other wise you could damage your knees in the long run...but its great for your thighs, it hurts, but just start out with holding it for 30 seconds, take a little break and go again...do this 3 times a day or so at 2 sets each. :-) also doing planks, put your elbow down on the ground...not just the elbow, the whole part of the arm in front of the elbow too...then but your ands to geather...but your toes on the ground...and make a plank, your whole body should be about 6 in above the ground...and your butt needs to be even with the rest of your body...:-) also running and bleacher runs are great...just 5 min. of bleacher running to start...then got to 8 or so...whatever you feel like doing, don't stress your muscle... and only run for as long as you want...push a little past once your short of breath, and as time goes on you should be able to go longer and easier. And finally setter always gets second ball just like her/his position.... the libero/ds passes to the setter, and the setter sets to the hitter so that they can get a good hit...you are always trying for 3 touches... not 1 or 2. 3!!!lol so you always want a good pass for the setter so that the setter can get a good set to the hitter. Oh...and just a useful tip... The strongest part in a girl body is her belly button,  so in passing position you always want your arms to be below your belly button....up until the elbow, so the elbow down should be below your belly button. and keep your but low!!!!!!!!!! LOW!!!!!!!!!! LOW!!!!!!!! That way when you pass you pass from your belly button, and only your legs and shoulders should move, NEVER YOUR ARMS!!!!!! And since your belly button is the strongest part of your body do 20 crunches, or siturs a night...and go up more and more as it gets easier...but do whatever you want!!!!! AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!!!!!! Sorry this is SO LONG!!!!!!!! lol I hope this helps, and the reason I know a lot, is because I'm the "captain setter" on my club team, i have NEVER been subbed out and i've been playing for 2 years....November through August! But  just start out easy, doing all of a sudden workouts will make you pull, tear, or just have sore muscles, and that blows!lol so start out however mush you want and graduate slowly!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!
