  2. Your not going to do it on your own superman.  Besides, you don't really want to save the environment.  You are not willing to do what it would take.  Like most people you are only willing to do what is convenient.  Not me, you say?  Well in that case, you have to stop using cars until a pollution free fuel has been developed.  Biofuels don't count as they actually harm the environment more than burning fossil fuels.  You also have to stop purchasing everything that is not produced locally.  This doesn't just mean food.  It means EVERYTHING.  Why you ask?  Because everything which is being shipped to a store, is being carried by a fossil fuel burning carbon producing vehicle.  Wait, this means you cannot buy solar panels and the like to heat your house, unless they are produced locally.  Looks like you better start wear layer upon layer of clothing, because you cannot burn fossil fuels to heat your house.  No camp fires either.  Trees store carbon and when you burn wood you put massive amounts of carbon back into the atmosphere. No lights, no computer, nothing which uses electricity can be used because the main source of electrical energy is the burning of fossil fuels.  Wow, your gonna have to stop breathing as well.  Just being alive, you are putting massive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere in a lifetime.  d**n, it looks like we are screwed.  The world is gonna end unless all humans kill themselves.  Do you now understand, why you are not willing to do what it would take to stop putting carbon into the atmosphere?  Well, I guess you might be if you are someone with a death wish, but that doesn't apply to most people.

    EDIT

You say, "Even if all you start out with is what's "convenient" or easiest for you, it matters."

That's just the thing, it won't matter.  If you believe what the scientist are saying about global warming, you have to believe that we are very close to the point of no return or we have already passed that point.  So if you really want to SAVE the environment, and you are only doing small steps or doing what is convenient, in the over all scheme of things you are only making a half assed attempt.  Unless we drastically cut down on carbon to keep from passing that point of no return, it isn't going to matter if everyone in the world switched from halogen to compact fluorescent lights, because it wasn't enough.  Don't you understand that?

  3. just remember and put into action the three R's:

    reuse

    reduce wastes

    recycle

  4. Each one of us leaves a footprint on this earth.  Each one of us does matter.  We are a collective - all connected.  Good fo you for knowing this and wanting to do something.  Even if all you start out with is what's "convenient" or easiest for you, it matters.  I have five kids and use a lot of stuff, so decided one thing we could do right off the bat was to shop more responsibly.  REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE for sure whenever possible also.  In addition to RRR, I stopped buying toxic products from irresponsible manufacturers who purport to be responsible.  Like Chlorox who comes out with a "green" line but continues to sell bleach products that are nasty for our environment and our individual health.  I shop with a company that is environmentally responsible and affordable and reliable!  I could tell you more if you want, but I'm not into blabbing on in a public forum such as this in case you are not interested.  You may reply to this post, and also could check out my blog if you want more information.  YOU CAN DO IT - YOU DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.  Do not lose hope!!!

  11. Visit this website for a wealth of information on ways to change and be more earth friendly:

    www.thedailygreen.com

There are lots of things you can start doing right away.. and then keep reading and researching and change more things over time

*Start using energy effecient bulbs in your home as your old ones burn out - or replace the ones you use the most immediately.

*Turn off lights when you leave a room. Use lamps rather than over head lighting.

*Try to open the windows for fresh air, rather than run the AC - OR put on a sweater rather than immediately turn up the heat.

    *Recycle everything you can.

*Start looking for earth friendly products - toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent, laundry detergent, etc.

Seventh Generation is a great brand that offers a LOT of

earth friendly products and they can even be found on

           Amazon.com now.

*Use more rags for cleaning than paper towels. Rags can be washed and used over and over again.

*Unplug electronics and other devices when you aren't using them.

*Switch to low flow shower heads - something that only uses 2-2.5 gal/min.   (Can be found at target for as little as $10.)

*Buy local products and produce as much as possible, as it cuts down on the cost and energy used to truck it in.

*Buy your own re-useable or "Go-again" bags for shopping. Try to reduce and / or eliminate using the stores' plastic bags

*Try to reuse things, rather than always throwing out and buying new - be creative.

The more you get into it.. the more you will learn and you can slowly change your entire lifestyle over time to be more green. My husband and I have been doing this over the 1-2 years.
