I would like a friend of mine to marry myself and my fiance. He's not a justice of the peace or a preacher or anything, just a college student. How can we arrange it so that he can legally marry us by October 09?

  1. You have to check with your local marriage license office. They should be able to point you to a good website. Not all states accept certifications from all websites, so you really need to check with them.

It takes about 10 minutes total to get certified, and cost anywhere from $10-$30.

You also need to make sure you've checked with your local office about waiting periods in your state for getting married.

    Congratulations!

All the above websites listed seem like they are always good in every state, but I've had 2 friends run across issues in different states - and the person marrying them had to get re-certified (right before the wedding!) on a different site. Check with your licensing office first.

  2. ONLINE!!! I don't know exatly the website but it takes less than 10 mins to do...my brothers friend is doing it for their friends wedding!!

  3. There are websites with churches that will allow you to sign up as a minister and gives you the authority to perform weddings.  You will still need a marriage license and he may have to pay a fee to get his certificate to perform it.

It's actually pretty common...  Try http://openordination.org/.  It was the first thing that popped up when I did a search!  Universal Life Church is also a popular one.

  4. i'm not sure he can unless he's certified.

    does that help a little?

  5. http://www.ordination.com/

Here's a site that should answer most of your questions.

  6. He'll have to be ordained by the state that you live in. You can actually do this online. I know several people, one of which that has performed 2 or 3 weddings, by doing the online deal.

    Hope this helps you! =]

  7. My husband and I had the same problem..the solution was SOOOO easy. We went before a judge the day before and signed the paper work (marriage certificate) 2 of the court house employees were our "witnesses" Then the REAL wedding took place the next day ..our non-licensed friend said all the words and  preformed an awesome ceremony. It was all legal the day before but "real" on the actual day.Nobody needs to know  if you don't want them to.

    Congratulations!!!

  8. I was actually just looking at this a week ago (wanted to do the same thing with my best friend). First go on line and find  a site for ordained ministers (there are plenty). Some, cost money and some don't..do some research and find one that will be excepted in your area. Go to/ Call your Clerks office and find out rules/permits needed for ministers in your area. (some states are very easy some not so easy). I 'm sorry I don't have sites for you my computer deleted the sites I saved.

  9. Some states and counties won't allow private certification or licensing, so you'll have to check and see what your local laws have to say about it.  Call your city or county clerk to find out what your legal options are.

My fiance and I want to have a close friend perform our ceremony, but it isn't legal in the county where we plan to be married.  In order to circumvent the situation, we are going to sign the marriage license at city hall a few days before our ceremony, and then allow our friend to perform the ceremony as if we weren't already married.  The only thing that will change is that we won't sign the marriage license at the end of the ceremony, but we are considering ourselves not to be married until that point.  (Obviously our marriage license will cite a different wedding date, but why should we care what a piece of paper says?)

    Good luck!

  10. He's got to get a licence for that.
