Question:

I need your brain if you're an American living in Mexico.....?

I'm seriously thinking of ditching my job (if they don't ditch me first) and moving to Mexico. My best friend, my ex whom I'm still digging, and my extended family is there (only my nuclear family is here in the states). Ive been living in Guadalajara for 4 months minimum every year for the past 3 years. I miss it. I want to go back. I'm inclined to move there...

The thing is... my femme family has a strong history of breast cancer so I want to take care of myself. I know what Mexican hospitals are like and I don't want to go that route. Anyone use "american" hospitals? Are they ubber expensive? Is there another way to healthcare? Also, can I honestly find an awesome job there, in corporate Mexico, or anything besides being an English teacher? I love my people, I love my country (with all its faults), and I'm young and single with the freedom to move to a different country without much other worries.

Whats your opinion? Help me out here... I have a MAJOR decision to make.

  1. I never seem to argue with Jessy D's advice.

Based on your last sentence - Young single willingness to move ect...............I too view life that way so I can relate.

No doubt the medical issues here are terrible - could always fly back to the states. You may never have breast cancer - why worry - LIVE LIFE. Agin you could cross that bridge when it comes.

You do have family to help you out down here Great advantage.

I think your aware of the great differences in lifestyle and $ which I dont think is bothering you. YOU KNOW the pay down here and dont expect to make more than $10 a day - no matter what ! thats the advantage to family helping you out.

I'm just like you in thinking................ I say and hear you want to enjoy life - you only live once !!!!   You can always return and at least you tried !

Im retired at 41 and live in Acapulco. Could not do it in the states. There are tons of drawbacks that I dislike - TONS.

But you know what - Every single morning I wake up and am full of life and adventure. Beautiful women , food , beaches and I got the rest of my life. Could not be happier. Maybe my home does not have sheetrock and lanscaping. Who cares Im not there that much, Im livin life !    I think your as bored with America as I was - just pissed at the day to day grind - chasing the allmighty dollar - but there is so much more to life that Americans dont see - called family time and LIFE, not work and the $$$$$

You can always return - the Mexicans are stuck here , they dont have that option - go for it - you might regret it later if you dont. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Talk to your extended family and get thier input for sure.

    I SAY DO IT !!!!!

  2. I disagree with the americans, in the way that the medical service, Of course we have hospitals with a lot of problems. But also we have hospitals in Mexico City, In Guadalajara, and in Monterrey better than a lot of Hospitals in America. We have a lot of the most important Doctors in the world.

About quality you can find, what you can pay. Best Wishes.

  3. It's going to be virtually impossible for you to find an awesome job here, and highly unlikely you would find a job that would be worth the time.  You're right, hospitals here are awful, I've only seen one so far that even had air conditioning, which make them the perfect breeding ground for germs.  And I don't know this from personal experience but an American Hospital is going to be even more expensive here than it is in the states, that's just how things work.

Vacationing here is one thing, but living here is a different story.  Do you really want to give up all the mordern ammenities you've grown accustomed to?  You won't even notice all the things you take for granted until you've actually settled in here...it's harder than you think.  I didn't realize all the little things that I would miss.  If you're loaded with money, sure you can live very nice here but otherwise it's very hard.

I'd seriously advise you to just come here on vacation and continue living in the states...I wish that's what I would of done.

  4. It would be better for you to stay in the USA. The reason hospitals in the USA are so expensive is because they have modern and proper treatment. With a history of breast cancer, you need to stay in the USA. You won't be able to find a good job there either, there's a reason they all come to America.

  5. nope sorry im keeping my brain
