My friend and I have decided that we would like to take a japanese language course in Japan for next summer. My dad found out and flipped out on me saying I was ungrateful because I am getting a new car. etc. I would be paying for this trip all by myself. He got so mad, yelling at me and my mom until my mom just said no to me in order to shut him up...I really want to go but I don't know what to do. My dad is moving out come this october or november...also I just asked my mom about it alone and she got mad at me and said no...I'm to young but by next summer all almost be 19. I need ways to persuade her into letting me go, bargaining or something...Need Ideas!!!!!!! Thank you ^_^

  1. I would try to talk to your mom about her reasons for not wanting you to go.  As a parent myself I would be afraid for my child to go to a foreign country, maybe due to my own ignorance of what to expect.  It's a scary time in this world for americans in foreign countries, as they can become targets for no real good reason, such as the parents of the recent usa volleyball coach for the olympics, who were attacked and the father was killed and the mother was severly wounded, and no one knows why.  If you can do some research and can get yourself and your parents educated on what to expect, they might be more open to the idea.

  2. if u r 18 u r old enough to do wat u want to do ur parents dont have any say bc u r an adult u  make ur own decisions tell ur parents u r going thats it. thats wat i would do u shouldnt care wat they say now ( i may sound like a brat but its true )

  3. You need to start asserting your independence over your parents right away, or they will ruin your life. You will be 30 and still making decisions based on what your parents think. I know way too many people, including my mother whose parents messed them up this way.

If you are paying for the trip yourself, there is nothing your parents can do to stop you if you are 18. Personally, a trip like the one you described sounds a lot more educational and beneficial to a young person than a car.
