I have a friend, not really my best friend just a friend. She's about 67 years old now and all alone in her life since her son left because she didn't want him to marry too early. Not really alone she have a helper and a German Shepherd whom she loves very much and treats it like her child. She said she wants to have grandkids, I think it's kinda crazy since she wants her dog to have puppies. I wanted her wish to come true so I looked for a male german shepherd in our area but didn't find one.

I was wondering what kind of dog if mixed with a german shepherd gives birth to beautiful puppies.

Do not worry about the puppies anyway, she's about 8 times richer than me and loves dogs. Next, next week is her birthday so I wanted to tell her my surprise...

  1. I understand you want to do something nice for your friend.....but simply being rich doesn't excuse irresponsible breeding.

Even if this lady was thinking of keeping ALL the puppies herself (litters of 8-10 are not unheard of)....honestly, don't you think a 67 year old woman would have her hands ridiculously full with that many dogs?  Training them, walking them, etc?  Raising a whole litter presents all sorts of behavioral challenges.

And if she'd give some away, even to "good homes"....1 in 4 dogs ends up in a shelter at some point in its life.  Even the most well-meaning owners run into problems that make it so they can't keep the dog.  Plus, her dogs could end up making more puppies down the line.  German Shepherd mixes are a dime a dozen, and larger dogs have a harder time finding homes.  It's just not a good idea.

But- I DO have a better idea for your friend.  Since she is lonely and clearly wants something to "care for".....see if you can get her involved in being a Foster Home for a local shelter or rescue group.

Sometimes, shelters and rescues will acquire females who are already pregnant, or who get "dumped" with an entire litter of young pups.  They need special foster volunteers who are willing and able to devote the attention to a whole litter of pups.

Even if she didn't get to foster a momma dog and pups right away, if she got teamed up with the right Rescue group, she'd have an un-ending supply of dogs who needed her help.  She'd have to get past the bittersweet sadness when the dogs found "forever homes" but for most rescue volunteers the good feeling that you've really helped a dog, wins over :).

  2. This has got to be the most stupid reason I have ever heard for breeding pets.  Sorry hun, but there are way too many dogs in rescues to ever support your or your friends reasoning for bringing in some more dogs in this world.  If she wants more dogs, then go to your local animal shelter and adopt them.  Have the GSD fixed and she will be better off both physically and mentally.  At age of 67 your friend should have better sense.

  3. Try mixing german shepherd and belgin malinoi. They look great and personality is also nice.

  4. Labradors or Border Collies have beautiful puppies with german shepherds. My dog is a cross between border collie and german shepherd.

  5. German Shepperd and husky mixed are so adorable and they have a very friendly personality.  I know one and he is a soppy as anything!

    hope this helps

  6. I had a shepard and sharpee.  That was the most beautiful dog with the kindest heart and the most determined to protect his family.

I've since had 2 others and I would get another if I could find the mix again.

  7. Labradors are the way to go and are easy to get ur hands on
