I need yugioh help can dust tornado destroy the effect of a trap pr speel card the second its played?

My friend does not like losing for example I summon jinzo in one game then he activate skill drain not knowing that it would not work if jinzo was first anyway he does not like to lose. Ok so he used dust tornado on one of my cards I used the same card to destroy his card but he said no it still goes through,was he right also on my turn when I was going to you a trap card he used mystical space typhoon on my turn. I though he could do it only on his turn he said that it was a quick spell card I told him no it wasn't was I wrong? Also I need more help from now on since I am playing him I would love to have advise so if you have any im I would love to ask more question but other than that tell me was I wrong?

About the dust tornado

Your friend was right. You couldn't have used your card to negate his. However, if he used a dust tornado on your face down and it happened to be a dust tornado or Mystical Space Typhoon (MST), then you can chain its effect and destroy one of his cards.

The only way to destroy Jinzo with a trap card is as soon as he is summoned. You can use Solemn Judgment on Jinzo only when he is first summoned. Other than that, you'll have to rely on Spell cards to destroy it.

Yes your friend can use MST on either players' turn. MST is a quickplay spell, which means that it can be activated whenever. However, spells without the lighning bolt emblem on the top right side cannot be activated on either players' turn. Only the controller's turn.

u cant not cahin a countious trap to a normal / tribute / special summon ok

yes u can stilla activate yo's it's called chaining

3 . mystical vs you activateing a trap card ?

lets say ceasefire ( yo trap card )

same thing it's called a chain

u can stilla ctivate since he is not negteing yo card he is destroying it not negateing so yo card works

4. mystical ?

mystical space typhoon is a qucik play ( symbol in the corrner is a lightning bolt )

u can activate quick plays any time during yo oppoet turn ( if it's on the field )

or

if it's yo turn u can activate qucik palys from yo hand any time
