The Barcelona superstar has revealed that he never dreamed of becoming the club’s all-time top goal scorer.
The Argentine international claimed that he is overjoyed by the prospect of having his name in the history books of La Blaugrana. Messi stated that it is more like a dream to be where he is at the moment.
The Rosario native recently broke the record previously held by Cesar Rodriguez and became the highest goal scorer in the history of Barcelona.
The Barca number 10 was already on the brink of breaking the record before Barcelona faced Granada in the mid-week.
The match that took place on Tuesday saw the current Spanish champions take on Granada at the Nou Camp. Heavily tipped as favourites to win the match, Pep Guardiola’s men made no mistake in securing all three points from the match.
Apart from the match, many had foreseen this match to be the one where Messi ousts another record. And so he did. The little wizard scored a blistering hat-trick, taking his tally to 234 goals in all competitions for Barcelona.

"The truth is that I am overjoyed. I never dreamed that one day I could be Barcelona's top scorer. I have always wanted to repay Barcelona for all they have done for me. It makes me very proud to be part of the club's history. I could not have done this
without the support of my companions,"
"I am delighted to see that in my own people are happy for me. I don't know if it was my best goal. When a game finishes, the first goal I scored for Barcelona, just like the last one and just like all the others, they are all very special to me."
The prolific forward is expected to feature for Barcelona as they go head to head against Mallorca over the weekend.
