I never rode against Bradley Wiggins, Christopher Froome
Team Sky’s internal controversy catches fire after Bradley Wiggins wrote in his recent autobiography that Christopher Froome took an attacking stance against him at the Tour de France 2012.
Wiggins was leading the team at the French Grand Tour and was fully supported by the British team however, Froome was not far behind as he fancied his own chances at the race.
However, Christopher Froome who finished second overall after the Tour de France overall classifications denied the allegations and noted that he never rode against the team leader and his only Tour goal was to support Bradley at the event.
“I’m sorry that he lived it like that,” Froome told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I never rode against him even if not many people realised that. If I attacked, it was to gain time on those who were just behind us – above all Nibali, who is a great rider and will be Wiggins’ main rival at the Giro 2013. I was always loyal, 100 percent”.
Bradley is expected to ride the Giro d’Italia in an attempt to fill his bag with all the three Grand Tours, which gives Froome an opportunity to have his chances at the Tour de France 2013.
The Tour de France 2012 runner-up will start his New Year campaign at the Volta ao Algarve and is planning to find the right legs early on the season to ensure his peak form for the season ahead.
“I’ll join up with the team in Majorca in January. I’ll start in Algarve in February, I’ll probably do Tirreno-Adriatico in March and I’ll put everything on the Tour, which is harder than the last one,” he concluded.
The 27-year-old was suffering from the Bilharzia virus which he has successful recovered and is now fully fit to start training for the new season.
Team Sky rode exceptionally well throughout the current season and occupied the top spot after the UCI World Tour teams rankings.
An internal controversy is the last thing Team General Manager David Brailsford was hoping as it can really drop the team’s performance chart but hopefully Brailsford will find a solution to ease-up the situation between Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome.
