  1. You should never give up a dream.

Keep in mind that some things are always going to be more difficult for some people. Most colleges offer some kind of student academic support center. They can help you with setting up a tutor, helping you take notes, ect. You may also want to look into taking some kind of study skills course that will help. It might not be as easy for you as other people, but always look into it. Don't give up on something you want for yourself!!!

  2. I think if your dream is to go you should keep trying.  You'll regret it if you don't at least send in the application to see what happens.  It's up to the college to decide if they'll accept you, they definitely won't if you don't apply.  Thus, if I were you I would do my best and keep working hard.  I would send in whatever applications need to be sent and I would ask for some help from a guidance counsellor.  You should never give up on your dreams.  Good luck

  3. I recommend that you talk to your high school counselor about this and tell him/her about your concerns.  College is tough and it is important to be able to take notes, following along and grasp concepts, otherwise, you may do poorly and want to quit.  Your school counselor can test you and help you choose the right career path.  Make an appointment as soon as you can.

  4. I used to be a terrible speller.  Then I took a remedial university class.  The name of the book we used was "Programmed Spelling."  It was assume.  Now, years later, I am a great speller, and I always use spell-check before turning anything in or posting anything online.

It helps to know the rules and words families.  English is such a mongrel language.

PS Your question is about remediation and approximates special education; close enough for me.  There may be other categories you could address this in as well.

  5. If you are a deaf/hard of hearing student you can talk to your college counselor and you may qualify to have another student in the class take notes for you on transfer paper.  This would allow you to get the notes from the lecture without having to use the copier.  Yes, it may mean that sometimes you will have to study more or ask the teacher for extra help.  But that is something that needs to be done not only for hearing impaired but also for any other student.

No matter your spelling ability you should apply to college.  There are so many opportunities that can only be reached by going to college.

If you do not try you can never succeed.

  6. If this is your dream then look at your options. So far, you have been given some excellent suggestions. I can add by saying give consideration to a smaller school with a better teacher to student ratio. Have you considered a junior college to start with, which is typically more affordable and have a vested interest in student success. If you have been identified as someone with special needs then more doors for support services may be opened for your even at the collegiate level.

Don't give up. Attitude and perseverance makes all the difference in life.

    Best of luck to you.
