i have been told you get it either when your first child is born (after marriage) or on your first wedding anniversery, which ever one comes first!

I don't believe this to be three rings. You can buy wedding bands called accent bands I think. You have the wedding band and it actually slips between the accent band creating the look of 3 rings. This is what I have seen when looking at rings myself.

It's often given by the husband during some pivotal anniversary, if they have a vow renewal, or even for her birthday!

a lot of times it's an anniversary band... Also, i know a lot of people who couldn't afford a big ring when they first got engaged and once they get older & can afford it they upgrade.

but in my case, i have 2 wedding bands and my engagement ring in the middle. i enjoy the symmetry. there's no specific meaning other than my husband wanted to give me 2.
