I thought that this was banned a couple of years ago.

There was a big issue about it and jockeys were in trouble for using it, videos were re run as proof etc.

so how come they can still do it.??

  1. It was never banned, they use them in all horse races.

  2. I noticed that too.

It's shocking............the only race i ever watch is the Grand national and i spend most of the time peeking through my fingers because i hate to see the horses fall or being whipped.

  3. It wasn't banned

  4. if you look closely at their whips they are heavily felted & padded and the horses are not damaged in any way by them.

they are only allow to actually make contact with the horses hiindquarters and further, only a few times per race - i think its 5 or 6, not 100% sure - however, most of the time they are not using the whip to hit the horse but to "show" it to the horse...

i expect you would be shocked to see the luxury and care these animals get - spa's, swimming pools. warm lamps, back massage etc etc - they are treated as athletes and in the most part with great respect - there are of course some who will go over the top as there is in anything when you get such competitive people together...

  5. Over use of the whip is punished but not the use of the

whip.It has never been banned.Jockeys are fined and

banned for awhile for over zealous use of the riding crop.

  6. im not an expert on horses but i heard that the whips are used to simulate a snake which causes the 'fight or flight' response, in the horses case flight, as in they run faster. The horses are treated like top atheletes and are given the best treatment in order to win so i dont think they are treated badly

  7. Maybe there is some rule as to how much they are allowed to use them but I agree it is wrong to whip the horses just to win a stupid race. Maybe someone should arrange for all of the jockeys to have a race with other people running behind them and whipping them and see how much they like it, I'd imagine they wouldn't be very happy to participate in that.

  8. whips conforming to laid down guidelines and a maximum of seven hits in the closing stages of the race.

  9. Hello

Whips weren't banned but jockeys can get into serious trouble for over use of the whip. They are monitored very closely and will be banned for a set period if found guilty. Most jockeys waved the whip towards the side of the horses head towards the end of a race to encourage the horse to speed up which because it is done so quickly does look like whipping!
