now i have to use drywall compound, the compound will level the space to the paint rather than to the actual wall... when i repaint over this compound area, will it show a bump again due to the extra layer the paint will create?

  1. Sand the area until the edges are below the surface. next make sure if you see brown paper showing in the hole that after you sand it to prime it and let it dry. Then put on the compound with a scraper and pull it tight. Come back to it as it dries and if it is so deep it starts to sag then shave it with the same scraper. Then when it dries take a semi damp sponge and wipe lightly across the top and a little harder around the edges of the patch. After that dries patch again the same way,but use sandpaper when dry instead of the sponge. Finally prime the patch with the finish coat of pain with a roller sleeve set up and feather the edges. When that dries repaint the whole wall  unless you have Glidden paint because that sometimes will blend in if it's flat. Otherwise you must paint the whole wall as many times even with the same paint you will see the new paint where the patch was.

  2. No, not if you sand it down a little. But, I would re paint the whole wall after you scrape off the bumps and sand them.
