Anyone know what cell phone provider in Mexico is reputable and not a Metro like service?

I'm thinking Nextel, but they require that I get my FM3 first, which I may have to do. I will only be in the Northwestern area of Baja.

I would much rather prefer a cell phone company from the US that has a Mexico plan, but VERIZON doesn't over their North American plan anymore.

  1. The richest man in the world owns 90% of all the cell phone companies in Mexico.  I'm sure all of the plans are very similar since he pretty much has a monopoly of the cell phone industry.

    His name is Carlos Slim

  2. I highly recommend you look into Movistar. They have the best prices and very good service.

  3. I got a Virgin cell in a Walmart...but the service worked fine to about 10 miles south of the border...

  4. I am surprised Verizon dose not because I have used mine in Juarez, Mexico and didn't cost extra and not roaming. I have used my phone in Mexico city and other towns that cost extra for roaming. I believe Movistar is connected with Verizon anyways. In Mexico they sell the Lg Chocolate phone in Mexico and that is supposed to be sold by only Verizon. I also was in Nuevo Laredo,Mexico last Christmas I always check my signal and usually have service in that town until about 20-30 miles from the border. I am surprised Tijuana would be a problem. Even if you had it mailed to a Po box in California and paid over the phone or on-line with a credit card. TelCel is okay but costs a little more.
