I offered HB-1 Visa from prosperous US company to work as programmer in USA. I need advise?

I offered $35,000 USD for year to program, I am bringing my wifes and my children. Where best to live? The profession is in the NYC area, I need to know where is best for me.

  2. How did you get a HB-1 Visa? There are plenty of programmers in the US. I thought that HB-1 Visa requirements were that the company had to prove that there were no US citizens available to do the job.

    Unless of course, they want you to program bogus questions on Yahoo Answers? But we already have plenty of them also.


  3. I am a Medical Programmer. I make upwards of $85,000 a year. If you take this deal, they are going to be taking advantage of your immigrant status to save themselves $50,000 a year. At that pay scale you and your family will live in poverty in the NYC area. It is the most expensive area in the US to live.

    Sounds like a sweet deal for the employer and abuse of a foreign national to me.

    $35,000 = $2916 gross per month. Take 20% out for taxes you net $2334. Most rents in NYC area exceed your income.

    So unless you are prepared to live with the welfare gangbangers, I would reconsider how good of a deal it really is.
