As I'm driving on local roads and highways traveling...I often notice shoes along the roadways. I've often wondered how it is possible that so many people lose their shoes. How do you lose a shoe in the highway...especially in the Chicagoland area in winter. It just doesn't make sense to me...How do people lose so many shoes? Have you ever lost your shoe on a highway?

  1. they fall out the window

  2. As shoes get older they start to mature.  Many desire to strike it out on their own, but very few make it.  They take any opportunity when you aren't looking to make a break for it because they hate long goodbyes.  Sometimes they might jump out of the bed of a moving pickup other times they do a barrel roll out of a hobos napsack.  The ones you see on the road are the unsuccessful ones.  Their mortality rate is exceptionally high when they don't leave as a pair.

  3. I don't have an answer except that here in Santa Fe it seems to be a rite of passage for who knows what.  Instead of leaving the shoes on the side of the road they toss them over the power lines.  It's a good question, though, if a little maddening not to know the answer.

  4. Maybe the people trip while driving. I know I have. But I could just be out of my mind....
