  1. I also hold the rating Airframe and Powerplant with an Inspection Authorization.  With only a Powerplant certificate (rating) you are limited to only engine work.  You are not authorized in accordance with Title 49 Part 65. Section § 65.87 Powerplant rating; additional privileges may approve and return to service a powerplant or propeller or any related part or appliance.

This certainly restricts your employment possiblies and marketable skills.  I would suggest you obtain your Airframe rating.  You can find all the information on how to gain the skills and length of time required to meet the FAA requirement to be signed off on FAA Form 8130-2 to take the written test.

You may already meet the requirements to find out you can contact me through my web site just click on the hyper link and I can assist you.  I am at http://www.stacheair.com

You only need 18 months experience to meet Part 65.77.

  2. You could be a component mechanic or an engine-build-up mechanic but like the first guy said be competitive, I am like you, as I have my Powerplant license first and was doing work as component mechanic (fuel pums,FCU, Spray nozzles, atomizers, oil pumps, pcu) time to time i take my airframe test so I have a low number already (license number would be the same) and when I completed my airframe exams about a year i'd have both ratings.

  3. Get the airframe license also.  You must be as marketable and as competitive as possible with the many other A&Ps out there.

  4. Engine shops are always looking for good people.
