I opted not to take AP World History this coming school year... is this really bad?

OK, here's the deal. I'm going to be in the 10th grade, but my education is a little different from the norm. I alternate between going to my regular home school and going to a science/math oriented magnet school each day. I did this last year, too. I got very good grades, but struggled a bit. I'm pretty much a loser nerd with no life who has no extracurricular activities. I would join school clubs, but my scheduling messes up everything. Sports are just not my thing. Sad, I know.

My parents discouraged me from taking AP World History this year, because they thought I couldn't handle the work load on top of what I'm already going to do. I made a schedule change earlier this summer and now I'm going to be taking the normal history class. All my classmates are taking AP History along with a variety of sports... I feel like an enormous failure, is this going to hurt me in the long run? Like with college and all? My parents are telling me that AP World History isn’t going to be very important in the field of study that I’m interested in (math and science). Still, I’d like reassurance.

Thanks for taking the time to read all of that.

  1. it'll probably be fine, but it's different. it just depends on the people you get in your class. i am in no way athletic, and i got put in a regular math class last year. although i hated the people, it won't change the course of my future or anything. and sports are so lame. there's no point. you just run around and try to catch some kind of ball. never have understood the concept. world history won't be very important in the math/science field. my math class won't mess anything up because i'm interested in english. it's the same in your situation. you aren't a failure at all. i always feel like that when i think about all the people who were in algebra or who were on the A team volleyball. but in the long run, not one single bit of that matters. all that matters is that you are getting prepared for a career that will make you happy. once we're older, high school is going to be such a foggy, dumb memory. good luck with your classes! also, i'm going to be in the ninth grade, so i guess i can sort of understand what you're going through.
