  1. Most current laptops have wireless. NO current desktops do. You will need to buy a card, either a pci internally fitted one, or a USB connecting one. And a ROUTER is not what you want now, so don't get confused by an other answer here. The "USB cable router" is probably meant to refer to a network card.

  2. You don't have to get a netgear adapter but if you have a choice I would do,- manufacturers own brand tend to work better together

  3. Routers are not usually sold with the receivers unless you bought a combo unit.

    If you haven't got a wireless controller in your device manager under Network Controllers then you need one of them too.  They run around $35 (canadian $) at any computer store.

  4. If it will not show up in the device manager you probably do not have one installed, wireless routers don't have to supply and adapters.  you have to buy them

  5. if its a laptop it might, bluetooth if its a pc but the only way to check is in the control panel or look for a little antennae symbol on the keyboard!

    Its usually in blue with the Fn "function" button, and numerics, you must enable it to start making a connection then its about lan cabling the router and getting a wifi key to put into all the computers on the network, connected, it should automatically save new connections you can use the ethernet lan cables instead of wifi if you need

  6. Go to Start->Control Panel->Network Connections.

    That will list your network adapters. You should have one called "Local Area Connection", that's your wired ethernet connection. If you have a wireless adapter, there should be another called "Wireless Network Connection"

  7. Just look the back side of your PC.Does it have an expansion card with an antenna on it? Desktops don't come with wireless cards installed,and only some high end motherboards have integrated WI-FI. Also wireless routers have cable ports for wired connection.

  8. You should get  a wireless router whit a USB adapter. Like this you can find only  a USB adapter and buy one. Its not to expensive.

  9. Typically desktop computers don't have wireless cards.  Laptops on the other hand almost always do.  You can check for sure by running compmgmt.msc and then clicking on Device Manager.  If you had a wireless network card it would appear under network adapters.

  10. look up the specs of the motherboard on the manufacture's site and it will tell you
