I will be getting a back social security disability check,will the IRS take this money and my future payments.

  1. If you sit on your hands, it will start taking 15%.  If you are unable to pay at this time, call IRS and explain the situation.  Your account would likely be reclassified as currently not collectible and put on the back burner.


  2. They can take a portion of those.  If you file a tax return and have a refund they will take that as well as the stimulus check if you were due one.

The short answer is Yes.  If your only income is from your disability and you are having trouble paying your basis living expenses, contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040.  The IRS can take your income information over the telephone and made a determination if you have the ability to pay or if your account should be placed in Currently Not Collectable.

  4. The IRS can take this if they place a levy on your assets.  You need to contact them and give them a statement on your updated financial situation and show that you do not have the means to pay and you need to prove to them that if they took any money from you, you would not have enough money required for basic living expenses.  Once you do this it is likely they will classify you as currently not collectible.
