I owe the state of nc a little bit of money. However, I have filed my federal already.. will i get fine?

how do i file my state taxes now, i filed my federal with turbo tax, i can not get in the old filed though

  1. For future reference, you should have filed your state return when you filed the federal - even if you could not pay the amount due.

    What you do now will depend on what state you live in, as each state has their own set of rules and procedures.  

    Unless you filed an extension with the state, you probably will get fined a penalty for not filing on time.  Plus you will have late payment penalites and interest.  

    Some states have on line filing, you go to their web site and fill in the forms there.  You may have to get copies of the state form and fill it out manually, and mail it in.  Most, if not all states have websites - you go to the web site and print out the forms you need.


  2. You will have a late penalty and interest charged on the amount you owe. It may not be very much right now, but the longer you wait the more you will owe. Since you can't get back into turbo tax, just go to the state of NC website and download the paper version and complete it.
